I don't know contemporary design very well, lots of things go over my head. I think the two forms can blend perfectly well. Compartments tend to break down every so many decades. A fusion may be achieved: the art is to hang loose, it can come about quite naturally. The contemplative can twin perfectly well with the 'usable'.
